Hotel Yak and Yeti
BW2V offers environmentally friendly hotel waste management solutions. With extensive employee training and an emphasis on waste segregation, hotels can reduce the amount of waste being sent to the landfill through segregating, recycling and composting initiatives. This effective solid waste management plan has provided successful results.
Hotel Yak and Yeti is a luxury hotel situated in Kathmandu with 270 rooms, 2 F&B outlets, and a large convention center. It generates an average of 650 kg of waste every day.
Waste Management at Yak and Yeti
Before Involvement of BW2V
The hotel had appointed a waste collection agency that was taking the waste and sending it directly to the landfill without proper segregation or processing. This resulted in a large quantity of waste sent to the landfill.
After Involvement of BW2V
In August 2015, BW2V took over and implemented a proper waste management system - from collection to disposal - in an attempt to decrease the amount of waste sent to the landfill. BW2V initiated the process by first educating the hotel staff about the concept of Waste management. It emphasized source segregation & familiarized the team with the three categories of waste: organic, recyclable, and non-recyclable.
The objective is the implementation of the below-mentioned processes:
- The total amount of waste heading to the landfill is REDUCED.
- Paper is repurposed and REUSED through BW2V's Green Circle program.
- Plastics, metal, glass, cardboard, and other materials are RECYCLED.
BW2V reduced the amount of waste that Hotel Yak and Yeti used to send to the landfill by implementing integrated solid waste management approach, minimizing their carbon footprint and environmental impact.
